This article lists new features released for the Funnels chart in March and April, 2023. These features are only available to users who have opted into the closed beta for side chart controls. To participate in this beta and gain access to these features, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
NOTE: This is a temporary, living document. It will be deleted when the new side chart controls enter the open beta stage, and its contents will be distributed to the appropriate existing articles.
Compare multiple events in a single step
You can compare up to three events within a single conversion step. After Step 4 of this procedure, select Compare Events at Step number from the Options fly-out menu, and then select the events to compare.
Comparing multiple events within one step is available for conversion and conversion over time metrics. Three events may be compared per step, for up to two steps at a time. Event comparisons are available for all three order options (any order, this order, exact order); however, they are not available for break downs by property nor in dashboard filters, and will be removed if a user switches between charts or funnel metrics.
Mark a step as optional
At times you will need to define a conversion where some of the steps are optional. For example, a funnel has steps A, B, C, and D, where B is optional. If a user performs steps A, C, and D, they would still convert.
Clickin the Events side control and select Optional step to make a step optional.
When it’s marked optional the side control will say *Optional and have a dotted line around it.
The chart will then show two funnels - one with the step and one without the step. The conversion take-aways and breakdown table will also reflect these two scenarios.
There are some limitations to marking a step as optional:
-
Optional works for Conversion and Conversion Over Time only.
-
Only one step can be optional at a time.
-
Only a middle step (not the first or last steps) can be optional.
-
Optional events cannot be reordered.
-
Events with a group-by cannot be optional.
-
Events comparing multiple events cannot be optional.
In-line custom events can also be created in Funnel and Event Segmentation charts for beta users. Read this article for more information.
Compare group-by values to each other
Funnel charts also allow you to compare a group-by property to another baseline property. Once your Funnel chart has a Segment property group-by, click the Compare dropdown to choose a value for comparison.
Once that value is selected, the conversion percentage difference will be seen on the microscope when hovering over a value in the visual, and the breakdown table. For a particular step in the breakdown table, you’ll see both the absolute percent difference and the conversion percent difference.
There are some limitations to Segment property group by comparisons:
- Only works with Conversion and Conversion Over Time
- Can only do Compare to Property Value or Compare to Past
- Limited to a maximum of two Segment group-bys
