This article will cover how to create, save charts, and how to use save charts features that will make sharing and collaboration for charts easier between team members.
Before you begin
Please keep in mind these features require an Enterprise, Growth, or Scholarship subscription: Collaboration, Create Dynamic Group Property, Monitors
Create and save a new chart
To create a new chart, click + New and select a new chart type from the Charts fly-out.
For a high-level overview of each chart type, check out this overview of charts and features.
To save your chart, click Save.
If this is your first time saving your chart, fill in all the relevant information in the Save modal that appears. Give your chart a name and description, add it to a dashboard or notebook, and specify whether you want others in your organization to be able to find and view your dashboard.
Once you've saved your chart, the More drop-down menu offers a number of options for managing and working with your chart:
- Unlisted: This option enables other members of your organization to find your chart. Keep in mind that Admins and Managers can always find saved charts, whether they're listed or unlisted.
- Open Notebook View: This opens the notebook fly-out panel, where you can preview how your chart will look in notebook format. You can also add your chart to a notebook from here, by selecting the notebook you want and clicking + Add chart to notebook.
- Export: This enables you to share your chart as a PNG, PDF, CSV, or shared link.
- Save As: This lets you save a new copy of your chart.
- Move: This lets you move your chart to a different space or folder.
- Copy: This opens a copy of your chart in a new browser tab.
- Comment: This enables you to leave a comment on your chart.
- Revert: This restores the most-recently saved version of this chart.
- Archive: You should archive a chart when it is no longer relevant to your analyses. Users can still search for archived charts in Search. Archiving a chart will disable all shared links associated with that chart. However, when the chart is un-archived, the shared links will be reactivated.
You can zoom in on charts by dragging diagonally across the chart and creating a rectangle over the section of the chart you'd like to view in more detail. Restore the full view by clicking Reset zoom.
Share your chart
To share your chart, either click to copy the chart's URL to your clipboard, or click
to open the Share your analysis modal.
Enter the names or emails of the stakeholders you want to share the chart with, and set their access privileges with the drop-down to the right. When you're ready, click Modify Owners.
Add your chart to a dashboard or notebook
To add your chart to a new or existing dashboard or notebook, click + Add to and scroll down until you find the dashboard or notebook you're looking for. You can also use this chart as the basis for creating a new dashboard or notebook.
Add custom legend labels
You can edit the legend of your chart to make it more readable. This is useful if, for example, you have applied multiple group-bys to a chart, and want to make it easy for viewers to understand what each segment is referring to.
The segment names in the breakdown data table below the chart will not change to reflect custom legend labels, however.
Customize a chart's y-axis
You can set the minimum and maximum values displayed on your chart's y-axis (vertical). This will enable you to avoid dramatic changes in y-axis values between subsequent chart views, as well as maintain consistent y-axes across charts when adding them to dashboards.
To do so, simply click the vertical axis on your chart, then enter the desired minimum and maximum values in the modal that appears.
Switch projects or chart types
To switch the project you are viewing, click the project name in the title of the chart and select a different project. Your chart will reflect the data of the newly-selected project. The new chart will match the controls of the original chart as closely as possible, and will drop any events or properties not instrumented in the new project.
You can also switch the chart type, by clicking the chart type name and selecting a different type. You can choose to preserve the events or segments you have already added to your current chart.
Chart cache times
Amplitude caches charts and requests. The cache time is dependent on the time interval (daily, weekly, monthly) and the numbers days from the present day. CSV downloads from charts will also be cached.
Below are the cache times for charts. Cache times for dashboards and CSV downloads are twice as long as the times listed below (e.g. 20 minutes, within last 7 days).
Real-time queries:
- 5 minutes, within the last 24 hours
Hourly queries:
- 5 minutes
Daily queries:
- 10 minutes, within last 7 days
