Before you begin
This integration is only available for customers who have paid plans with Amplitude and Klaviyo. Also, this integration must be enabled on a per-project basis.
Set up the integration
To set up the integration and export behavioral cohorts to Klaviyo, follow these steps:
-
Sign up for an Amplitude and a Klaviyo account. Amplitude's Quick Start Guide will walk you through how to set up your Amplitude organization and create your first project. To create a Klaviyo account, visit Klaviyo.com.
-
Retrieve your Klaviyo API key by opening Klaviyo and navigating to Account > Settings > API Keys. Within this page, you can create and manage your Klaviyo API Keys. For the integration, you’ll need a Private API Key.
-
In Amplitude, navigate to Sources & Destinations → {project name} → Destinations → Klaviyo. In the modal window, fill in each field and select which user ID you will use to send to Klaviyo.
NOTE: Klaviyo requires the user ID to be valid email format. -
Click Save. You should now see the status change to Active.
-
Open or create the cohort of users you wish to export from Amplitude to Klaviyo.
-
Click Sync to...to export these users to Klaviyo.
Once you have exported the cohort, you can see the cohort in the List section of the Klaviyo platform. You can then create segments with two conditions:
-
-
“Properties about someone“ →
isActive
sets to beis true
with typeBoolean
-
“If someone is in or not in a list“ → Person
is
inChoose a list
→ chooses a list from the dropdown list.
-
After that, you create a segment with active users in the cohort, which can be used for the following events (eg: campaigns).
