Customer.io is a messaging platform that allows marketers to turn ideas into powerful automated message campaigns. Customer.io’s logic-based tools help you capture every edge case and connect to the real people in your audience.
This article will explain how to sync your Amplitude cohorts to Customer.io, as a way to facilitate the sending of targeted marketing messages.
Before you begin
This integration is only available for customers who have paid plans with Amplitude. The users in your cohort must exist in Customer.io prior to the sync from Amplitude. Users that do not exist in Customer.io will be ignored and not shown in the sync.
Set up the integration
To set up the integration and export behavioral cohorts to Customer.io, follow these steps:
-
Sign up for an Amplitude and a Customer.io account. Amplitude's Quick Start Guide will walk you through how to set up your Amplitude organization and create your first project. To create a Customer.io account, visit Customer.io.
-
Retrieve your Customer.io API key by opening Customer.io and navigating to Account Settings > API Credentials. Within this page, you can create and manage your Customer.io Tracking API Keys and App API Keys. For the integration, you’ll need a Tracking API Key, the Site ID, and an App API Key.
-
In Amplitude, navigate to Sources & Destinations → {project name} → Destinations → Customer.io. In the modal window, fill in each field and select which user ID you will use to send to Customer.io.
NOTE: This integration must be enabled on a per-project basis. -
Click Save. You should now see the status change to Active.
-
To export users from Amplitude to Customer.io, open the cohort of users you wish to export and click Sync to....
Once you have exported the cohort, you can see the cohort in the Segments section of the Customer.io platform. You can use segments as recipient lists, campaign triggers, filters, conversion goals and more. Whenever you need to reference a subset of the people in your workspace, you’ll use a segment.
