Before you begin
This integration is only available for customers who have paid plans with Amplitude.
Send Mailchimp Events to Amplitude
To set up the integration to send event data from Mailchimp to Amplitude, follow these steps:

Sign up for an Amplitude and a Mailchimp account. Amplitude's Quick Start Guide will walk you through how to set up your Amplitude organization and create your first project. To create a Mailchimp account, visit mailchimp.com, where you can sign up for free. Note that certain features—including cohorts—of this integration are only available to paid customers.

Mailchimp events are sent to Amplitude from a specific Mailchimp audience. If you do not have an existing audience, you will need to create one.

Find your Mailchimp audience ID for the audience you would like to use for sending events to Amplitude. If you have multiple audiences, you'll need to set up this integration for each one.

In Amplitude Analytics, navigate to Data Sources, click I want to import data into Amplitude, and then select Mailchimp. This opens the Mailchimp integration modal.

To add this new data source, you'll need to authenticate with Mailchimp. Click Connect to Mailchimp. This will redirect you to a Mailchimp login page.

Enter your username and password on the Mailchimp login page. Then click Log In.

You will be asked to authorize Amplitude to allow access to your account. Click Allow. You will then be automatically redirected back to Amplitude, to the Connect Mailchimp page.

Enter your Mailchimp audience ID, then click Next. This will automatically create a webhook on your Mailchimp audience that will send events to Amplitude.
NOTE: You are limited to one webhook for a specific Mailchimp audience and Amplitude project. If a webhook for this Mailchimp audience and Amplitude project already exists, it will be reset to the default configurations supported by Amplitude. Amplitude supports only Mailchimpsubscribe
andunsubscribe
events, from Mailchimp user sources only. -
You are now ready to send Mailchimp events to Amplitude. Once Amplitude starts receiving events from your Mailchimp audience, Mailchimp will show on the Data Sources page, under Sources, with a status of Connected.
Events received from Mailchimp will all carry the [Mailchimp]
prefix. Currently, only [Mailchimp] subscribe
and [Mailchimp] unsubscribe
are supported.
Export Amplitude Cohorts to Mailchimp
When syncing to Mailchimp via the cohort export process described below, make sure your cohort name is 88 characters or fewer.
To set up the integration to export behavioral cohorts to Mailchimp, follow these steps:

To create a Mailchimp account, visit mailchimp.com, where you can sign up for free. Then select a Growth plan, as this integration is only available to paid customers.

Amplitude cohorts are exported to a specific Mailchimp audience. If you do not have an existing audience you will need to create one.

Find your Mailchimp audience ID for the audience you would like to use for sending events to Amplitude. If you have multiple audiences, you'll need to set up this integration for each one.

In Amplitude Analytics, navigate to Data Destinations, click View All Destinations, and then select Mailchimp. This opens the Sync to Mailchimp modal.

To add this new destination you will need to authenticate with Mailchimp. Click Connect to Mailchimp. This will redirect you to a Mailchimp login page.

Enter your username and password on the Mailchimp login page and click Log In.

You will be asked to authorize Amplitude to allow access to your account. Click Allow. You will then be automatically redirected back to Amplitude with the Sync to Mailchimp modal open.

For the new destination, enter your Mailchimp audience ID and select an Amplitude user property to export from the drop down. This user property must contain an email address; without one, the mapping to Mailchimp will fail.

Click Save. You should now see Mailchimp in the list of cohort destinations on the Data Destinations page, with a status of Connected.

Open or create the cohort of users you wish to export from Amplitude to Mailchimp and click Sync to… . This opens the Select Sync Type modal in Amplitude Recommend.

Under Sync Type, select Messaging, and then under Select Destination, select Mailchimp. Then click Next.

Select your destination from the API Target dropdown. Under Define Cadence, select either a one-time or scheduled sync. Then click Sync and wait for Amplitude to sync your cohort to Mailchimp.
After the sync has completed, navigate to your audience on Mailchimp. Your cohort is identifiable on Mailchimp by a Mailchimp tag named
. You can filter by tags on Mailchimp to view the members of your audience belonging to the exported Amplitude cohort. <Amplitude cohort name>
